UAE to issue residency visas for remote workers

Updated: May 18, 2021

The UAE cabinet met on Sunday chaired by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid, the Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai, and announced a couple of decisions. The cabinet announced the introduction of residence permits for remote workers and multi-entry tourist visas in addition to other domestic decisions.

Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid said the new permit allows any employee to reside in the UAE while working remotely, even if the company is not present in the country. The work permit will be issued with a one-year visa that will allow people to enter the UAE under self-sponsorship and work in line with the terms and conditions.

The new decision aims to support the public and private sectors and allows employees to expand their digital skills as well as to adapt to the emerging economy. Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid wrote on Twitter: "Development is continuous, change will not stop ... our teams continue day and night to consolidate our international economic and political position and establish a quality of life that is the best in the world for our people and all those residing here.

Additionally, the UAE will adopt a multi-entry tourist visa for all nationalities. The five-year visa allows tourists to enter the UAE multiple times on self-sponsorship. The visa will allow people to enter and remain in the country for 90 days and can be extended for another 90 days.

These decisions make it easier for people to work from the UAE or to look for work in the country. Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid said: “the UAE is a global economic capital… and all our decisions will be based on this vision”.
